Guitar String Buyer's Guide

Strings are a much overlooked aspect of a guitarists sound. Most people buy the cheapest set, or go for just "whatever eveybody else has". But strings are the first point of honing your sound, as they are the actual sound source, and the way they vibrate is a major aspect of the overall amplified sound.

The first point is to keep your strings clean. Dirty strings will not resonate as well as clean ones and are going to feel horrible to play. If you play for a couple of hours a day, or you sweat more than the average mortal then you should really change you strings roughly every fortnight. If this is too much financially then a cheap way to maintain your strings is to buy a pot of fast fret. This is a non toxic formula designed to clean your strings and lubricate them at the same time. The only shortfall is that after time your strings will become over stretched and will not tune up properly, and your intonation will be out.
